Course Description

The course will begin with an overview of the key features and characteristics of social anxiety disorder. The presenter will then compare and contrast social anxiety disorder to other disorders and describe social anxiety-specific assessment tools that can be used for assessment and symptom tracking. The presenter will describe the cognitive-behavioral model of social anxiety and then guide participants through the cognitive-behavioral approach to treatment, with an emphasis on the behavioral concepts and application. Special topics include a discussion on the role of safety behaviors in maintaining social anxiety, building a social anxiety hierarchy for exposure-based treatment, and ways to utilize behavioral interventions during treatment (e.g., in-vivo exposures, imaginal exposures). Illustrative case examples will be used throughout to demonstrate concepts and application.
