OCD SUBTYPES: IDENTIFICTION AND TREATMENT

October 22, 2024
WITH PATRICK B. McGRATH, PhD

Registration for this event has closed

Course Description

There are many benefits to being able to describe and discuss various subtypes of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD; e.g., harm, scrupulosity, contamination, sexual orientation, perfectionism). Subtype knowledge can be useful for demonstrating understanding and professional competence, developing rapport with patients, improving communication with patients and other professionals, reducing shame as a potential barrier to treatment, and improving treatment plans.

In this course, participants will learn to recognize and describe the various subtypes of OCD. The course also includes engaging case examples of evidence-based strategies (e.g., exposure and response prevention) for the treatment of OCD subtypes.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the essential features of various subtypes of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
  2. Apply evidence-based treatment strategies to various subtypes of OCD.

Participants will be able to ask questions and interact with the presenter.

TESTIMONIALS

I am always amazed about Dr. McGrath's way of breaking down the power and benefits of ERP. His case examples, presenting skills, and step by step process for implementing creative exposure interventions are invaluable."

Course participant

This was incredibly informative especially for someone like me who has no experience in working with OCD. The types of OCD were explained very thoroughly and examples were helpful in better understanding how this can look. Learning about how ERP can be applied based on client needs was incredible."

Course participant

Loved the examples Dr. McGrath provided. Also, his presentation style - able to communicate about complex issues clearly and simply, w/ humor, and w/o losing depth or complexity”
