Course Description

This introductory-level course will explore the role of assessment throughout the therapeutic process as it pertains to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).  Clinicians will learn how to identify, accurately assess for, and track the severity of symptoms of OCD.  The presenters will discuss the importance of the assessment process, along with providing information on OCD-specific and broader diagnostic tools that aid in the differential diagnosis of commonly comorbid conditions (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder).  Included case examples illustrate how assessment can be used to enhance treatment planning at various stages of treatment.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 2-3 tools that can be used for diagnostic assessment or treatment planning for OCD and its commonly comorbid conditions. 

  • Describe how the assessment process can be used to enhance treatment planning.

PRESENTER
Kellie Kintz, LCSW, ICSW, LICSW

Kellie Kintz, LCSW, ICSW, LICSW is the NOCD Network Clinical Onboarding Director providing operational oversight for the clinical onboarding of our Therapists.  Kellie earned her masters degree from Barry University, Miami Shores, Florida and completed her one-year clinical internship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.  Post-graduation, Kellie worked with psychiatrist,  Dr. Abby Strauss, Chapter President of the Florida Psychiatric Society in the Field of Clinical Drug Trials specializing in psychiatric studies of the central nervous system. Through this work,  Kellie contributed to clinical research and honed her assessment skills with anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, PTSD, Schizophrenia and Alzheimer's Disease. 

Kellie has been in practice for 35 years and specializes in OCD, anxiety, mood and personality disorders. Kellie has developed and implemented protocols targeting trauma, crisis management, suicide prevention, clinical ethics and disaster behavioral health in hospital, IOP, PHP, hospice, and private practice settings. Kellie is a Qualified Supervisor- FL and has extensive experience teaching, training and preparing masters level clinicians for advanced practice. She is a published author and along with neurologist Dr. Eric Kramer, Internist Dr. Stuart Bagatell and Rabbi Anthony Fratello co-authored, “Permission To Die: Candid Conversations About Death and Dying.” Kellie has been a guest speaker on radio and television shows as well as podcasts discussing mental health topics.

PRESENTER
Taylor Newendorp, MA, LCPC

Taylor Newendorp, MA, LCPC, is a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois and the  Network Clinical Training Director for NOCD.  In this role, Mr. Newendorp uses his expertise in OCD and related disorders to oversee all aspects of clinical  training  and development for a team of multidisciplinary therapists in their delivery of high-quality, evidence-based treatments.  

Mr. Newendorp earned his MA in marital and family therapy at the University of San Diego.  He is the president and founder of Chicago Counseling Center, Inc.  He is a former clinical supervisor and therapist for AMITA’s Center for Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders where he oversaw all aspects of the evening intensive outpatient program and led cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy groups for OCD and related anxiety disorders.  Before transitioning to the OCD program, he was a co-coordinator and therapist for AMITA’s binge-eating program.  

Mentoring and training has been a large part of Mr. Newendorp’s career.  He currently runs several consultation groups at NOCD, has provided talks on perfectionism at national conferences, and is involved in developing treatment protocols for OCD and conducting related research.  Mr. Newendorp is the author of The Perfectionism Workbook: Proven Strategies to End Procrastination, Accept Yourself, and Achieve Your Goals, a workbook that incorporates cognitive-behavioral strategies to address perfectionism.

PRESENTER
Shauna Pichette,  LPC, NCC

Shauna Pichette is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin and Oregon. Shauna earned her MS in Counseling Psychology at The University of Southern Mississippi. She is currently serving as a Clinical Training Specialist at NOCD. In this role, she provides specialized training to therapists new to Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and providing consultation. Shauna started her journey with treating OCD and related disorders in 2016 at the residential level. Since then, Shauna has continued with a focus on OCD and related disorders at the outpatient level and residential levels and spoken at national conferences.

Continuing Education Credit

Continuing education (CE) regulations vary by state/jurisdiction.  Check with your state or jurisdiction's licensing board to ensure course acceptance/approval.  

SOCIAL WORKERS

NOCD, #1805, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 03/25/2022 - 03/25/2023. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 clinical continuing education credits.


PSYCHOLOGISTS

NOCD is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NOCD maintains responsibility for this program and its content.


COUNSELORS

NOCD has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7212. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NOCD is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Individuals who attend a live CE webinar will have 60 days after the live course date to review course materials (e.g., slides, references, recordings).  Recordings from live CE webinars will be made available to those who attended the live CE webinar in its entirety.  Recordings are typically available within 10 days of an event.
