Course Description

Do you want to make your behavioral interventions more effective? Do you see the same problematic behaviors happening over and over again but are not sure how to intervene?

Functional assessment is a systematic process aimed at improving behavioral interventions through the identification of person-specific variables that contribute to the maintenance and exacerbation of undesirable symptoms. In this course, we'll learn what a functional assessment is, how to conduct a functional assessment, and how to translate that information to enhance behavioral therapy. Anxiety-disorder and OCD specific case examples will be used to illustrate concept and application.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define functional assessment.
  2. Complete a functional assessment.
  3. Create a hierarchy informed by functional assessment.

FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENT FOR OCD AND ANXIETY DISORDERS
TESTIMONIALS

This was a really useful training on functional assessment, which is a portion of ERP training that typically doesn't get a lot of attention. The examples were relevant and realistic. I appreciate the use of multiple examples, and how to translate the FA to a fear hierarchy.“

Course participant

It was nice to be able to see the demonstration of what a functional assessment could look like with a true client. I enjoyed learning more about this technique and feel that it can definitely be used for a lot of other target behaviors including substance use. It helps to really get to understand where your client is coming from and how to best support them in making changes.”

Course participant

Dr. Farrell was a very thorough presenter. The host was helpful in addressing questions in the chat. The demo with fake client was very well done and tied the teaching to the practical application.”
