Dr. llisse Perlmutter, MD, is a General and Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist experienced in all areas of psychiatry. She is the Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Director of Clinical Education at Talkiatry. After a brief career in social work, she returned to school and received her MD from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. After an internship in pediatrics, she completed a residency in Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Medical Center followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Perlmutter has held leadership roles in several institutions, and she is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Perlmutter’s publications, presentations, and research experience focus on clinical, epidemiologic, and psychopharmacologic issues in child and adolescent psychiatry, and she has made frequent media appearances addressing topical issues. Immediately after 9/11, Dr. Perlmutter joined Disaster Psychiatry Outreach (DPO) as a volunteer and worked extensively at the Pier 94 Family Assistance Center supervising activities with children and families in Kid’s Korner while also working with the NYPD. Along with her DPO colleagues, she has given many regional and national presentations in Disaster Psychiatry Training. During the current pandemic, Dr. Perlmutter created mental health programs for front line personnel and gives presentations addressing concerns and questions about the mental health issues we are confronting.
She is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists, and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has received awards for her contributions both locally and nationally.
